Notes About The Topside Bar:
The Town of Plymouth requires
that servers of alcohol are trained on alcohol awareness. This is to
provide service personnel with a sound, factual basis upon which they can
make prudent service related decisions. It is critical to the success of
our policy that our bartenders also are comfortable exercising that right.
Their job descriptions were created years ago and are continually updated
to keep pace with the changing world. It is important to recognize that
bartenders on duty have the responsibility and authority to manage the bar
as they have been directed. Their decisions are not negotiable with PYC
members and their guests (as their training and directive from the manager
and Executive Comm. dictate.) The law requires that a server make a
reasonable effort to prevent intoxication in patrons, prevent alcohol
sales to minors, and to intervene if a patron does become intoxicated.
This can include calling the police if necessary. They have the burden to
report any inappropriate behavior and /or improprieties which may occur,
to the manager. Considering the legal ramifications, it is imperative that
they consistently execute this authority, not only to protect the Club,
and its members, but to protect their own families and personal property.
They are in the best position to assess a patron's sobriety. We are
extremely fortunate to have experienced, dedicated bartenders. The
Executive Committee will support the bartenders in their decision to
refuse further service. Topside Bar hours will not be extended beyond
scheduled hours. Last call is 15 minutes prior to closing the bar. No
drinks will be served after last call. Function Bar hours will not exceed
the contracted time. All bartenders, hostesses, and wait staff are
T.I.P.S. certified and in-house trained.
It is the responsibility of
each and every one of the members to participate in the protection and
well being of the Club. The liability concerns are shared by 100% of the
members. The Executive Committee makes policy decisions for what it feel
is best for the majority of the membership. It is the obligation of the
Exec. Comm. to see to it that the Club and the membership are well
protected. Further, the Executive Committee has adopted over the years a
zero tolerance for alcohol abuse at the bar and on the property, including
the Club launches at PYC. Therefore, responsible consumption of alcohol is
absolutely mandatory at all times. It is expected that members respect the
laws and Club policy and take responsibility to assist the bartenders and
the management in doing so. It is expected that all members act in a
manner consistent with Club policy. Any inappropriate comments or behavior
intended to dissuade the bartenders from the performance of their duty
will not be tolerated. There is currently a disciplinary process in place
as described in the by-laws to deal with members who are unwilling to
honor this policy and it will be executed. Member pricing will be in place
for all PYC functions, non-member prices will be in effect for all private
functions.
